A couple weeks ago, I had the privilege to spend six hours (9pm-3am) with a couple Holland Police Officers walking and riding their �beat.� I try to stay really in touch with what is happening in our community and to be aware of the reality of people and families. After those 6 hours, I admit � I had lost touch with a large segment of our little world.

I remember when I was pregnant, and teaching Large Group, one of the 2nd/3rd graders asked to speak to "the lady with the baby in her belly." Figuring it was a question about babies, I left two giggling Children's ministry volunteers behind, and headed over to the classroom to seek out this inquisitive child. She was very happy that I had come, but her question surprised me. "How do I become a stronger Christian?" she asked.

I have been trying to determine the source of the negativity flowing through our existence today. It might just be me, but life feels so pessimistic for almost everyone. The conversations we have � me included � seem to start with negative things and end with worse. News, movies, television, blogs, and music all seem more dark and gloomy than ever. Why? What is feeding this?

Why I Serve in Ridge Kids

You ask why I serve in Ridge Kids... Is it the hugs and children cuddling up on my lap during story time? These are nice, but no � they are not the reasons. Well then, it must be the �personal satisfaction� that comes from helping lead children in the way they should go? Again, nice � but no. You may think I naturally love children and to that I would respond � No Way! I was never the teenager who loved babies, and I rarely babysat.

Through the Eyes of Children

When I chose to help in the children's ministry four years ago, there was quite a bit of fear in my heart and mind, which was simply fear of the unknown. Working with these children in kindergarten through 5th grade has opened my eyes to the beauty of their sponge like minds and hearts that are truly longing for more spiritual leaders in their world.

I love to serve in Ridge Kids ministries because it is so exciting to share God's Word with all of the precious little children that come to Ridge Point. It is quite awe-inspiring to see so many children that come to church and devote their time to gain knowledge about our Savior Jesus Christ. The children are so eager to learn and listen about Bible stories that it warms my heart and inspires me to continue to share my love for the Lord with others.
